Obituaries: Eleanor Mae Towers (Feb. 6, 1924 - Jan. 27, 2010) |
Eleanor Mae Towers passed away January 27, 2010, after a short illness. Born in Wakefield, Calif., on February 6, 1924, Eleanor Wakefield grew up in the Fort Dick area with her siblings Lois, Bob, Dick and Sara Wakefield (later, Sara Soares).
Eleanor married Roy Towers in 1943, and they lived in occupied Japan for two years after World War II. They eventually settled back in Crescent City, where they raised their family. Eleanor loved her hometown, and felt an acute connection to the area as a third generation born in Del Norte County. Mrs. Towers was active in St. Joseph's parish, and worked to support the American Cancer Society. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Roy Towers, and her grandson Ross Tanner. She is survived by her children Bob, Mary, and Elizabeth Towers, and Barbara Tanner. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Natalie, Darrin and David Thomas, and Joseph Kutchukov, and the beautiful, good hearted adults they have become. Eleanor was blessed with numerous extended family members in the area. Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Friday from noon until 7 p.m. with Rosary services starting at 7 p.m. A Christian Burial service will be held at Wier’s Chapel at noon on Saturday, January 30, with internment at the family plot at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery Family members request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1301 Northcrest Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531 in lieu of flowers.
