Two Yurok candidates left |
A field of four candidates vying for the vacant North District seat on the Yurok Tribal Council was whittled to two after a special primary election Wednesday, according to unofficial voting results. Raymond McQuillen and Jack Mattz will now face off in a March 3 race to see who will replace former North District representative Marjorie Donahue Buckskin, who left her seat to become the council’s vice chair. McQuillen received 87 of 196 votes in the primary, while candidate Jack Mattz came in second with 60. The other challengers, Mel Brooks and Etta Rose Norris, received 15 and 34 votes, respectively. The Yurok Tribe Election Board will meet Monday to certify Wednesday’s election results. The North District extends from north of Klamath near Wilson Creek and into Southern Oregon. |
