Jobless rate up by 1.2% in past year |
Del Norte County’s unemployment rate for June was 13.5 percent — up 0.5 percent from May. The county’s unemployment rate has increased by 1.2 percentage points over the past year. Currently the county is tied for 30th-best employment rates in the state out of 58 counties. Marin County had the lowest rate at 8.2 percent and Imperial had the highest at 27.6 percent. The majority of the county’s job losses for the month occurred in the government sector, followed by the information division. A majority of the job growth occurred in the farming industry. Total Del Norte wage and salary employment increased by 100 jobs between May and June, ending the month-over period with 8,080 jobs. The comparable — not seasonally adjusted — California rate of 12.2 percent is up 0.3 percentage points over the month and 0.6 percent over the year. |
