Business Beat: Paradigm aims to put locals online

As a pilot at Cal-Ore Life Flight, Tim Van Maren has also been helping Cal-Ore with its Website,

cal-ore.com, for the past 18 months or so. In March, he went official with his own company, Paradigm Website Design, which he plans to pursue as a part-time endeavor while continuing to fly for Cal-Ore.

The Cal-Ore Website features a video with narrative that plays automatically from the homepage. Van Maren also designed a Website for a Chicago company that prints edible photos in a variety of sizes that can be used on cakes and cookies, located at orderediblephotos.com.

"My main goal is to help local smaller businesses get online," Van Maren said. "When we moved here, my wife and I couldn't find any information about local businesses online. The businesses here need to use the Internet as a tool to get their name out there. The Internet is the new yellow pages."

Van Maren studied Web design for fun in college several years ago, and has followed up with more classes recently. His own Website, shifttoblue.com, is now underway and should be up and running soon. In the meantime, he can be reached at (866) 235-9123.

Redwoods RV Resort opens

Formerly known as the Ramblin' Rose, the Redwoods RV Resort at 6701 Hwy. 101 N., is now open for business under its new owners, Millennium Management, LLC.

"When we bought the property in November 2006, the Ramblin' Rose's permit to operate had been suspended for multiple violations, which we inherited and had to correct," said John Croce, a managing member for Millennium. "We just got a new permit on April 13, after a tremendous amount of capital investment. The state looked at us very, very carefully, and now we're legal again."

From their office in Huntington Beach, Millennium owns and manages nine parks altogether from Arizona to Oregon, with the majority in California.

"This is a primary business for us," Croce said. "It's a long-term investment for us, not a speculative buy.

"When we took over the park, it was basically decimated with trash and overgrown. It had squatters and was a total disaster. We removed tons of trash, including old trailers, and manicured the place. We're building new roads right now. It's just gorgeous, one of the most beautiful settings of any park in the North Coast area."

With 26 wooded acres, the Redwoods RV Resort is licensed for 21 mobile homes, 102 RV sites, a commercial building and tent camping.

"We just completed building a playground," Croce said. "This fall, we plan to open an 1,800 square foot clubhouse for meetings and events. We'll have park models to rent as cabins and an office/store building, as well."
