While California didn't have a banner January as far as hotel occupancy went, Del Norte County's was worse.
Occupancy in Crescent City during January was 40.2 percent, according to Smith Travel Research, headquartered in Hendersonville, Tenn. For the Crescent City/Eureka area, it was 47.2 percent.
Localized data puts the average daily room price at $57.52 in Crescent City as compared to $64.23 in Crescent City/Eureka.
Revenue per available room in Crescent City was $23.14 during January, compared to $30.33 in Crescent City/Eureka.
For purposes of the Crescent City data, 19 hotels with 776 rooms took part in the survey.
California hotel occupancy and room rates were 1.1 percent below January of 2006 during the same period this year.
Information from California Travel Research shows that most of the state's "sub-areas" also showed declines.
Room rates during the same time period were up 6.9 percent, and revenue per available room was up 5.7 percent.
