A moderate 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck under the ocean 61 miles southwest of Crescent City at 4:05 p.m. Friday.
The quake caused light shaking in Del Norte County, according to the United States Geological Survey.
There have been reports of some people in Del Norte feeling the quake or noticing objects move while others in close proximity did not notice it at all.
The quake was felt more widely in Humboldt County, but there are no reports of damages or injuries.
Earthquakes of this magnitude do not produce tsunamis.
