Officers confiscated approximately $18,000 after making a narcotics arrest in Del Norte County yesterday.
Agents from the Del Norte Inter-Agency Narcotics Task Force said the arrest was the conclusion of a six-month long investigation into suspected drug trafficking.
Miguel Angel Samano, 22, of Brookings, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Monday after he was stopped in his vehicle after returning from Southern California, agents said. He is charged with possession of contraband and possession for sale of amphetamines, according to the Del Norte County Sheriff's Department.
Samano was served with a search warrant for his car, where about $5,000 in cash was recovered, agents said. After Samano granted a further search, drug-packaging material, scales, and a small amount of methamphetamines and marijuana were discovered, along with another $13,000.
Agent Jerry Harwood said the California Highway Patrol, the Crescent City Police Department and sheriff's deputies cooperated in the arrest.
"I would also like to thank the citizens who aided us in this investigation," said Harwood. "Without the help from concerned members of the community, we probably couldn't have gotten as far as we did."
