Volunteers of all ages are sought for a beach cleanup scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, with participants meeting at the Point St. George parking lot.
The cleanup is part of a California Coastal Commission effort to do quarterly beach cleanups to identify spikes in the arrival of Japanese debris swept to sea in the 2011 tsunami. Baseline data from over 20 years of coastal cleanups will help spot a trend.
The cleanup will cover the area from Point St. George to the mouth of the Smith River, and bags and gloves will be provided.
Volunteers are encouraged to pre-register by calling Joe Gillespie, Del Norte County coastal cleanup coordinator, at 707-954-1969.
