The coroner’s office has determined that a local man found on U.S. Highway 199 last week died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Del Norte County Sheriff’s Commander Bill Steven told the Triplicate on Wednesday.
A passerby on Highway 199 found the body at mile post marker 12.75 just west of Gasquet on June 11, Steven said.
The body was discovered at about 2:40 p.m. with a gun nearby, according to Steven.
Family members of the deceased, a 55-year-old Gasquet resident, reported him missing earlier that morning. They said they hadn’t seen him since June 9, Steven said.
