A memorial fund has been set up in the name of Crescent City's Bruno de Solenni to aid military families affected by the war, according to his sister, Pia de Solenni.

The Oregon National Guard captain was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday.

Because of of the abundance of flowers and gifts to the family, the de Solennis are now asking the public to make donations in Bruno's memory instead to the "Bruno de Solenni Memorial Fund."

The flowers, food, cards and phone calls have been overwhelming, but "Bruno's the type that would rather see people be helped," Pia de Solenni said.

"I know it would mean something to him that he could help other people's families," she said.

There is now a Website, www.brunodesolenni.com, with links to compilations of memoirs and articles and blogs about de Solenni.

A PayPal account has also been set up under Bruno de Solenni Memorial Fund. Donations can be made by going to the Web site.

Donations can also be made by mail to Bruno de Solenni Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 876, Crescent City, CA, 95531.

Cards and letters can be sent to Lisa Wheeler, c/o Maximus Group, 600 Churchill Ct., Woodstock, GA 30188.

Funeral arrangements are still pending.
