Burglars hit motel before it can open |
Crescent City’s newest motel got off to a rough start this week. Burglars broke through a window on the west end of the Oceanview Inn and Suites and stole 21 flat-screen television sets valued at a total of $4,290, a printer, computer and microwave. “We are asking for information from the public in regards to these television sets and the other items removed from the motel,” said Police Chief Doug Plack. The TV sets are special models exclusively offered from Walmart’s website, Plack said. Those stolen included 18 32-inch and three 40-inch sets, all Sceptre brand. It is suspected the burglary took place sometime from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. “Because the building is under construction the surveillance system wasn’t fully installed,” said Plack. Anyone who may have seen people hauling equipment from the building or having other information about the case is encouraged to contact the Police Department at 464-2133 or call or text an anonymous tip-line at 218-4229. A representative of the motel declined comment, but did say it officially opened Friday.
