Burglary suspect turns himself in to authorities

A local man who was sought by authorities in connection with a burglary last week surrendered Monday.

Daniel Phillips, 26, of Crescent City, was arrested on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and burglary after meeting with authorities in Smith River.

Phillips was sought after a burglary that took place Thursday. Authorities suspect he was the driver of a vehicle that was parked in the driveway.

The burglary was interrupted by the homeowner’s sister when she drove past the house on Mosley Road and noticed a car she didn’t recognize.

After calling her brother, she went to the house and confronted the driver, who wouldn’t look at or acknowledge her, authorities said.

The man drove off shortly afterward, leaving a woman in the house to fend for herself, authorities said.

Samantha Rovier, 31, of Crescent City, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and burglary.

The vehicle Phillips is suspected of driving was a rental car that was recovered Friday afternoon.

Phillips is also considered a suspect in a September burglary in the county, sheriff’s Commander Bill said.
