Collision on 101 diverts traffic

A collision on U.S. Highway 101 in front of Anchor Beach Inn left both drivers with minor injuries and caused the highway to close for about half an hour on Tuesday.

Christina Zendejas, 26, of Crescent City pulled her Chevy Astro out of the Anchor Beach parking lot onto Highway 101 just before 1 p.m., according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.

Zendejas failed to see Jeremy Kissinger, 36, of Crescent City, driving a tan Ford Ranger at about 35 mph in the southbound lane. Kissinger noticed the Chevy Astro pulling in front of him and applied the brakes but was unable to stop in time and collided with the driver’s side door of the Chevy.

The impact from the crash caused the Chevy to spin around to the right, coming to rest along the southbound shoulder of the road.

Both Zendejas and Kissinger were transported to Sutter Coast Hospital with minor injuries after complaining of pain.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the press release.
