Composting class, film for ‘America Recycles Day’

Two free events will be offered in Del Norte County this weekend in honor of America Recycles Day, a national event that has promoted and celebrated recycling since 1997.

The film “Trashed” will be shown at the College of the Redwoods Del Norte Campus at 6 p.m. Friday.  The 2012 film starring Jeremy Irons looks at the fast-growing industry of waste pollution by taking viewers on a global tour of garbage and toxic disposal sites.

“How to Compost at Home” will provide people with a crash-course in composting and how it can be applied at home. The class is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Crescent Elk Middle School garden (994 G St.), rain or shine.

For more information on the composting class, call the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority at 707-465-1100.
