Crescent City's fallen soldier, Capt. Bruno de Solenni, came home Thursday to well over a hundred people lining U.S. Highway 101 and Front Street.

A friend of de Solenni's, Heather Holt, pictured at right, waited with others along South Beach holding an American flag.

"The war seems so far away," Holt said as she awaited the motorcade carrying de Solenni's body. "Our lives are so normal until something like this happens and your life is just shattered."

de Solenni was killed in an explosion in Afghanistan on Sept. 20. A rosary will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 319 E. Main St. His funeral will be held at the same location at 10 a.m. Saturday. The public is invited to both events.
