Curry County officers back

WesCom News Service

GOLD BEACH, Ore. – The Curry County Budget Committee tentatively agreed to return five road deputies to Sheriff Mark Metcalf's staff that had previously had all road deputies and the criminal division deleted in earlier versions of the "disaster budget."

"The proposal is to put in five deputies at the top level," Commissioner Lucie La Bont told Metcalf.

"If you have the ability to put five back in my office, that's where they should go," Metcalf said.

Metcalf had previously prepared a budget that stripped 16 officers from his department.

, including all the patrol officers and detectives. That came because of the bare bones budget made necessary when the county did not believe Congress would come through with additional timber replacement funds.
