Del Norte High School graduate Jessie Fisher, 23, was stabbed to death at her Portland home Tuesday night by her fiance, authorities said.
Eric K. Rodriguez, 26, will be arrested on suspicion of murder when he is released from the hospital after treatment for his own stab wounds, Portland Police told the Oregonian newspaper.
“Eric and her had been together for about a year,” said Tayshia Mode, a long-time friend of Fisher’s. “They got engaged about a week ago.”
Mode was visiting Fisher this week, but left her house Monday night to visit other friends.
“I couldn’t really believe it because Jessie is seriously the sweetest person I know,” said Mode.
She said everything seemed fine between the two the night before the stabbing.
Fisher moved to Portland about three years ago and was working at a foster home for people with mental disabilities, said Mode, who lived with Fisher in Portland for about a year and also in Spokane after she graduated from Del Norte High.
Mode has moved back to Crescent City.
Fisher was in the 2007 class at Del Norte High, but graduated early, Mode said.
“She really was the light amongst all of her friends,” said Mode.
