Del Norte’s preliminary May jobless rate was 10.4 percent, down 0.9 percentage points from the revised April rate (11.3 percent) and down 2.7 percentage points from the year-ago rate (13.1 percent).
The comparable, not seasonally adjusted California rate (8.1 percent) is down 0.4 percentage points, according to figures released Friday by the state Labor Market Information Division.
In spite of the month-over rate drop, Del Norte remained at 37th-best among the 58 counties statewide. Some surrounding county rates include Siskiyou (11.1 percent), Shasta (10 percent), Trinity (11.3 percent), and Humboldt (7.7 percent). Marin (4.5 percent) has the lowest May rate and Imperial County the highest (22.8 percent).
The comparable U.S. rate is 7.3 percent, up 0.2 percentage points over the month.
