The FBI asked the Crescent City Police Department on Sunday to be on the lookout for three Arabic men in a silver Lincoln.
Whether there is a connection between the request and an investigation into the World Trade Center or Pentagon terrorist attacks is unknown.
The police departments log indicated the three Arabic males, all in their 30s, were driving a silver Ford Lincoln four-door with a California license plate, number 4RUN177.
Police Chief Bob West said he could not comment on police involvement in connection with the FBI.
While the department had no comment, police normally warn residents not to confront people who are sought by police, but instead urge residents to make a report to the police station. There is no indication at this point just why the FBI is interested in this particular car.
A spokesperson with the FBI in Washington D.C. said yesterday the department could not provide any further information.
I can say theres nothing across our desk regarding Crescent City here, said the spokesperson, who did not give her name. We have so many leads coming in right now we couldnt confirm or deny any report (of an investigation),
The spokesperson said if she did have information regarding a Crescent City investigation she would not be able to comment on it.
FBI agents were in Crescent City yesterday although it is not clear why they were here. When asked, the agents said they were not allowed to make comments on investigations.
Also last week, the Del Norte County courthouse received a telephone call from a man with a heavy accent who made references to the White House, said Sandy Linderman, assistant clerk executive officer.
We made a tape for the sheriff and the police, Linderman said. The FBI listened to it this morning and said we should keep it for a while longer.
Although much of what the man said is unintelligible, one portion can be made out, ...hes been in the White House for so long ... he went all over America ... hiding.
The caller hung up after that.
Whether or not the telephone call and the police investigation are connected is unknown.
Three of the suspected hijackers aboard American Airlines flight #77 that crashed into the Pentagon last week had apparent ties to California, with residences located in San Diego, according to a FBI press release.
