Food biz training scheduled

The North Coast Small Business Development Center is sponsoring a training program, the “Food Service Flight,” aimed at people who are in business or on the verge of starting a food-related business.

The goal is for participants to get a well-rounded education for a business in the food service industry; to understand issues such as their market, food costs, regulations and bookkeeping. All participants will create a business plan with financial projections. They will learn how to run a viable healthy business and increase the success of their enterprise.

Ideal candidates for the “Food Service Flight” are already in business or are substantially prepared to go into a food-related business, such as a restaurant, coffee shop, vending, catering, mobile food carts or a farmer’s market booth, organizers said.

Applicants must demonstrate willingness to complete an eight-month-long training program with a commitment to setting and achieving business goals. Eligible participants have five or fewer employees (including owners) and must live and/or work in Del Norte County, with an annual income at or below 80 percent of the county’s median income level.

The program is scheduled to be held from November 2012 to June 2013. The application deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30.

Applications are available at 225 H St., Crescent City, or on their website at www.north
