Gas station greeting leads to arrests

A woman was arrested after greeting a law officer in a local gas station.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Griffin had stopped into the Performance Fuels gas station around 10:30 p.m. Saturday and was greeted by Wendy Montoya, 35, who was standing in line ahead of him.

Having had contact with her in the past, Griffin said he checked whether there was a warrant for her arrest. It turned out she was being sought for failure to appear, he said.

She was then contacted in a man’s car in the gas station’s parking lot, where marijuana, brass knuckles, a methamphetamine pipe and digital scale was discovered, Griffin said.

Montoya was arrested on suspicion of marijuana for sale, transporting marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and possession of brass knuckles.

The driver of the vehicle, Lor Lao, 33, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. His vehicle was subsequently towed.
