House fire impacts two families |
Two local families lost most of their possessions and a family pet in a house fire Sunday night.
The Crescent City Fire Department responded to the blaze at 1661 Parkway Drive, next to Parkway Feed, around 7:30 p.m., said Fire Chief Steve Wakefield. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Wakefield. Residents had been staying with a friend due to electrical problems that required the power to be shut off, but the family dog and most of their possessions remained, Wakefield said. The dog, which Daniel Reinier owned for 14 years, died of smoke inhalation, said his wife, Jacquelynn Reinier. The Reiniers’ four children lived in the home, as well as Jacquelynn’s friend, Laurie Thurn, and her 6-year-old daughter. Tami Hintz, a friend that the families had been staying with, is organizing donations for the victims, Jacquelynn Reinier said. “We’ve had so much help from this community and others from as far as Brookings and Medford,” Reinier said. “We’d like to thank them for that.” The Del Norte County chapter of the American Red Cross is provided funding for clothes, food and other items, Reinier said. Reinier said the families have received lots of clothes, but they could still use school supplies for the children, household items, and furniture for when they find a new residence. Monetary donations will be accepted for Jacquelynn Reinier at Chetco Federal Credit Union.
