Deputy superintendent airlifted for treatment
Del Norte County’s deputy school superintendent was injured in a motorcycle wreck near Gasquet on Friday morning.
Rodney Jahn, 62, was riding his 1996 Harley Davidson about 50 mph south of Mary Peacock Bridge on U.S. Highway 199 toward stopped traffic around 9:50 a.m., according the California Highway Patrol.
While braking, Jahn lost control of his motorcycle, slammed into the rear of a 1995 Ford F-150 and was thrown off his bike, the CHP said.
Jahn was taken to Sutter Coast Hospital with moderate injuries, the CHP said. He was later flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, where a condition report was unavailable Friday evening.
The driver of the truck, Arthur L. Hicketts, 80, of Medford, was uninjured.
Jahn has been the deputy superintendent since 1988, for the school district and County Office of Education. In this role, he maintains budgets, is responsible for student information systems, health and welfare benefits, worker’s compensation, property and liability insurance programs and oversees various departments, such as transportation and food services.
