Jury selection for 79-year-old Vera Inez Rehfeld's murder trial will begin Sept. 10 in Del Norte County Superior Court.
However, Rehfeld may be released from custody pending her bail review hearing which is set for June 13.
"I'd like to be out of here for my 80th birthday, July the 24th," Rehfeld said during her arraignment and trial setting Friday.
During the proceedings on Friday, Rehfeld pleaded not guilty to murder charges and a special allegation charge of use of a deadly weapon for the death of James McElroy, Rehfeld's 42-year-old ex-convict roommate.
This will be the first murder trial since Robert Randolph, 43, was cleared of second degree murder charges in the death of John Waid, 53, who was killed when Waid fell and struck his head during an altercation with Randolph behind Safeway in Crescent City.
