Del Norte’s Rumiano Cheese Company took home a first-place prize at the American Cheese Society’s 31st annual conference held recently in Sacramento.
Rumiano’s Dry Monterey Jack received first place in the “American Originals — Dry Jack Made from Cow’s Milk” category, according to the competition results. There were no second or third-place awards given in that category.
The judges critiqued 1,685 entries from 248 producers representing 39 states and Canada. Cheese made from California cow milk earned two dozen awards this year.
