Man arrested after pursuit north of town

A driver led authorities on a high-speed chase down Lake Earl Drive that reached speeds up to 100 mph Tuesday before he was apprehended in Fort Dick.

Rolando Palmerian, 28, of Crescent City, was spotted driving a stolen vehicle on Washington Boulevard by a sheriff’s deputy around 4:30 p.m., said sheriff’s Commander Bill Steven.

The deputy tried pulling Palmerian over, but instead he began to flee heading north of town on Lake Earl Drive, Steven said.

Palmerian lost control of the Honda sedan on a long curve north of Fort Dick leading toward U.S. Highway 101, Steven said.

The vehicle flipped into a ditch and Palmerian fled into a field before being apprehended by deputies about 100 yards from the vehicle, Steven said.

Palmerian was arrested on suspicion of a dozen charges, including receiving stolen property, evading a peace officer with a disregard for public safety, possession of methamphetamine for sale and assault with a deadly weapon, Steven said.

Authorities had been on alert for the green Honda that Palmerian was driving after receiving numerous reports it was related to several vehicle break-ins over the weekend on South Fork Road and in Smith River, in addition to the vehicle being stolen, Steven said.

“Everyone has been diligently searching for the vehicle,” said Steven.

Palmerian is the main suspect in the break-ins, Steven said.
