Man gets 2-year sentence for stealing over 300 gal. of gas |
A local man has been sentenced for siphoning more than 325 gallons of fuel from local gas stations last spring. Derek Leishman, 25, of Crescent City, was sentenced to two years in county jail, two years in a rehabilitation program and fined $625 for receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit burglary, grand theft and conspiracy of grand theft. If Leishman does not complete the rehabilitation program after his incarceration, he will face an additional three years and eight months. Rather then argue that Leishman serve the full amount his charges call for, District Attorney Jon Alexander offered the option to attend a rehabilitation program as part of a request from the victims of his crimes who considered Leishman a good person before he became involved in methamphetamine use, Alexander said. Leishman’s conviction is connected to gas thefts from Fort Dick Market in May, Hiouchi Hamlet in April and Pey-Mey Fuel Mart in June, which netted more than 325 gallons of stolen fuel. His grand theft counts pertain to a stolen RV, which also occurred in June. |
