Neighbor’s tip breaks up burglary

Property stacked by door; woman jailed

Authorities thwarted a burglary in Smith River on Friday after a neighbor noticed a front door to a home standing open.

The neighbor called the emergency dispatch around noon to report she heard someone in the house at 11927 Oceanview Drive, said sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Morris.

“It was a burglary in progress,” said Morris. “The house had been locked and the front door had been kicked in.”

Items were stacked next to the front door, he said.

Authorities found Trixie Standley, 45, of Fort Dick at the residence, Morris said.

“We got there and confronted her at gunpoint and arrested her,” said Morris. Standley was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The owner of the home is deceased and Standley stated at the time of arrest she didn’t know the man, nor did she have permission to be in the house, Morris said.
