No charges filed so far in fatal fight

Police are scrambling with 2 investigations

No charges have been filed in connection with the shooting death of a local business owner Nov. 20 during a scuffle at an associate’s house.

The Crescent City Police Department is awaiting results from evidence gathered by the Department of Justice and trying to create a timeline and gather more information about the incidents that led up to the shooting of Mike Napoli, Plack said.

The investigation has taken some time because the department is short on resources and is also investigating another high-profile case, Plack said.

“These two incidents are really depleting our resources,” said Plack, referring to Napoli’s death and the stabbing of five men Nov. 30 outside Torero’s Restaurant, a case which also has no arrests.

Authorities said Napoli, armed with a gun, went to Donnell Parker’s house at 955 A St. to confront him about money Napoli was owed.

While arguing, Napoli reportedly pulled out a pistol causing Parker to jump out of his chair and struggle with Napoli, Parker told authorities.

During the entanglement, the gun apparently went off, Plack said.

At around, 8:10 p.m., Parker called 911 to report an accidental discharge of a firearm at his house.

Napoli, 41, was found lying on his back with a gunshot wound to the chest. He stopped breathing shortly after authorities arrived.

Past business transactions regarding Napoli’s Tech Town computer store led to a friendship between him and Parker, Plack said.
