Over 10% of annual rain possible by Wed.

A series of heavy storms could bring up to 8 inches of rain to Crescent City today through Wednesday, the National Weather Service reports.

Such an amount would be 12 percent of average annual rainfall.

“This heavy rain may result in high water in low lying areas and local flooding of small creeks and streams,” the NWS said Friday.

Up to three inches of rain from last night through Sunday is possible, with the heaviest rain falling today.

Next week, however, Del Norte County could see a heavier downpour of as much as 5 inches of rain from Monday to Wednesday.

Southerly winds along the coast may also be strong, with gusts over 45 mph.

Areas above 4,000 feet may see brief periods of moderate to heavy snowfall and accumulations up to four inches, but mountain passes will not be affected.

The long-range forecast is for additional rain from Thanksgiving Day to the end of next week.
