An attempted murder charge is the end result of a bar-time altercation that began at Toreros Famosos Mexican Restaurant in Crescent City early Saturday morning.
Two men, Andre Jose Gonzalez and James Banuelos, were fighting at the bar when law enforcement officials broke up the fight and sent the two men home, according to the Del Norte County Sheriff's Office.
But for the 24-year-old Gonzalez, the fight was not over.
Gonzalez followed Banuelos, 29, to a residence on Waldo Street and stabbed him with a knife in the middle of the street.
"It was a significant injury," DNSO Commander Bill Steven said. "Great bodily injury occurred. It wasn't just something minor."
Banuelos, a Crescent City resident, received minor wounds on his arms and a major stab wound to his lower abdomen.
On Monday, Banuelos was at Sutter Coast Hospital receiving treatment for his stab wound and is in stable condition.
Gonzalez, a Smith River resident, is awaiting his arraignment in the Del Norte County Jail under $250,000 bond.
