Another round of county timber payments has been allocated for projects related to Six Rivers National Forest land in Del Norte County, and now is the time to recommend potential projects.
The Del Norte Resource Advisory Committee will hold a public meeting in Crescent City at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Del Norte County Unified School District building, 301 W. Washington Blvd.
The Del Norte RAC, and other RACs throughout the country, are created through the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act, which was reauthorized for one year of funding last October.
The Secure Rural Schools Act, which was first passed in 2000, provides counties with timber payments for communities heavily affected by the decline of timber harvests on federal forests.
The Del Norte RAC has previously funded the Coast to Crest Trail, outdoor education, brushing and grading on routes through the forest like French Hill Road and Low Divide Road, fisheries work, and a variety of other projects.
