Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., last week called on U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign.
"I am deeply disturbed by recent evidence showing significant political interference at the Department of Justice with regard to the firing of eight United States attorneys," Thompson wrote to President George Bush. "Equally alarming is the way in which the Department proceeded to mislead Congress when asked about the firings."
Thompson's call for Bush to demand Gonzales' resignation comes after the attorney general admitted mistakes in his department over the firings of several U.S. attorneys. Investigations have shown that political party leaders may have urged some dismissals based on political party divisions.
