Santa’s Workshop needs more gifts |
Santa’s Workshop still needs presents for nearly 300 children in Del Norte County this Christmas. “I need 285 presents as we speak,” said Ron Phillips, “head elf” of Santa’s Workshop, on Monday. There were 1,286 applications to Rural Human Services’ Santa’s Workshop program for children’s presents, said Phillips, the special projects coordinator for RHS. Walmart has a “giving tree” with the remaining mittens that have a child’s gender, age and interest on each. A present of about $20-40 can be purchased for the child and dropped off at Santa’s Workshop at 555 H St. Phillips believes there are about 100 mittens with presents that haven’t been turned in yet and many that haven’t been selected. Presents need to be dropped off at Santa’s Workshop on H Street by 6 p.m. today. Gifts will be distributed starting Wednesday morning to families. Phillips has also received some cash donations that he’ll use to buy some presents.
