Scenic road reopens after tree damage

Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway has reopened for vehicle traffic.

The parkway had been closed for more than five weeks after four trees, including two old-growth redwoods, fell and severely damaged the road.

California State Parks maintenance supervisors Pete Monahan and Dee Dee Cathey and their crews conducted the clean-up and resurfacing with help from Caltrans and the National Park Service.

The parkway, 25 miles south of Crescent City, offers a picturesque tour of old-growth redwoods in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.
