Search continues for missing mushroom hunters
Last seen at Rogue River campgroundGOLD BEACH, Ore. — The search continued Wednesday for three people reported as being overdue mushroom hunters in the Saunders Creek drainage area near the Rogue River. The three are husband and wife Daniel Conne, 47, and Belinda Conne, 47, and their 25-year-old son Michael Conne. They were reported as last seen on Sunday around noon at their campsite in Huntley Park on the Rogue River, and were thought to be going into the Saunders Creek area to pick mushrooms. The Connes did not return and left two dogs inside a camp trailer. Curry County deputies located the Conne Vehicle, a 2004 Jeep Cherokee with Oklahoma license plates, Wednesday morning about 12 miles from Gold Beach, off of the U.S. Forest Road 33 commonly known as the Agness Road. Searchers then located clothing and mushroom picking gear some distance away in drainage. Trails and drainages have been searched around the vehicle and where the items were located. The search will continue today with the help of searchers and dog teams from other counties. The Civil Air Patrol have flown missions in support of the ground searchers, but were unsuccessful in locating any further items. The photo of Daniel and Belinda Conne supplied by the Sheriff’s Department does not show the full beard Daniel currently wears. Anyone with information regarding the Connes’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Curry County Sheriff’s Office at 541-247-3242, or 800-543-8471.
