Sewer rates likely will rise

By Nick Grube

Triplicate staff writer

Sewer rates will begin to rise over the next three years due to the Crescent City Council's acceptance Monday of a bid for a on Beachfront Park.

Currently, rates are about $31 for a single-family home, not including the $10 charge for collection. But those rates will rise by $10 per year for the next three years in order to pay for the project, Crescent City Engineer Jim Barnts said.

"If we accept this bid," he said before the council acted, "the values would go up for treatment to about $60 dollars (for a single family home)." This figure, he added, does not include the $10 collection fee.

Council members noted that these increased fees will be looked in the future more scrutiny on how they might affect the elderly and those who are on limited incomes.
