Sheriff: Pot in bust was headed to Washington

Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office deputies seized 34 pounds of marijuana Tuesday night from two individuals the sheriff says were attempting to transport the pot to be sold in Washington state.

On his Facebook page, Sheriff Dean Wilson attributed the pot bust to Washington state’s legalization of recreational marijuana use.

“The demand has outstripped the supply,” Wilson said in a post on his Sheriff Facebook page.

After two weeks of Washington’s experiment with recreational weed stores, many pot shops reported selling out of supply much faster than anticipated, according to reports from the Oregonian.

Lawrence Ball, 25, of Washington, and Sara Shook, 25, of Redondo Beach, were traveling  together but driving separate cars when authorities stopped the vehicles near the south Chevron in Crescent City on Highway 101 at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Both were arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana.

Ball was also arrested on suspicion of felony charges of possession of marijuana for sale, transportation of marijuana and possession of concentrated cannabis.

Sheriff Wilson said that border counties have seen an increase in the transportation of marijuana since Washington’s new law went into effect.
