The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for Friday morning from 4 to 10 a.m. "Coastal flooding is possible again on Saturday as tides are high and southerly winds remain elevated," the advisory said.

The flood warning has ended for the Smith River. The river crested  at a height of 28.33 at 1:30 p.m. at the Jed Smith river gauge in Hiouchi, where the flood stage is 29.  The river crested at 32.36 feet at 3:15 p.m. at the Dr. Fine Bridge, where flood stage is 33 feet.  The raintip at Dr. Fine Bridge measured more than 8.5 inches of rain in the past two days as of 5 p.m.

There have been at least 5.5 inches of rain recorded in Crescent City since 4 a.m. Wednesday.

On the seas, southerly winds will decrease Thursday night, but the sea will remain hazardous through the night.  Southerly winds are expected to reach gale force Friday when another front approaches.

The front yards of several houses on North Bank Road (Highway 197) were flooded Thursday afternoon, with as much as a foot of water in some spots.  At the same time, four campsites and the horse shoe pit at Ruby Van Deventer park were under a few feet of water.  The river came very close to spilling over South bank Road Thursday afternoon, but the river started dropping before it breached.

In Brookings, residents of AtRivers Edge RV Resort near Brookings started voluntarily evacuating around 4 p.m. Thursday as the flooded Chetco River came within 20 feet of homes.

Areas of the park had already flooded as high water found it’s way around the back of the park and flooded several structures.

Farther north, a slide on Highway 101 blocked the northbound lanes south of Pistol River, according to Curry County Sheriff John Bishop. The highway was open only to one-way traffic controlled by flaggers.

Crews and flaggers were on scene and equipment to clear the slide were being dispatched. "It will take awhile," Bishop said, due to the significance of the slide and the amount of material.
