Soakers expected this week

Del Norte to face brunt of rainstorms

The dry spell has come to an end.

A series of storms will bring a deluge of rain to the coast starting today through the week.

Del Norte County will get the brunt of the storms — receiving 2–4 inches of rain just between Tuesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

“In your neck of the woods, it will be fairly widespread through Friday,” said Jason Anderson, a meteorologist with the NWS in Eureka.

Down the coast, rainfall will be less significant. In Humboldt County, 1–2 inches is expected and about half an inch in Mendocino, according to the NWS. Del Norte and the Southern Oregon Coast will get most of the rain this week.

“You’re right there in that sweet spot, where the rain likes to pile up,” Anderson said. “Everything comes together just right.”

There could be breaks in the storms, she said. Heavy rainfall is expected tonight and Thursday night into Friday.

There’s a chance the storms will pass through by the weekend in time for New Year’s Eve celebrations and the first day of 2012.

“We might not see much rain on Saturday,” Anderson said.
