Stamps Jr. arrested for driving under influence

Bill Stamps Jr., a developer aiming to revitalize the Tsunami Landing area and the son of famed radio announced Bill Stamps, was arrested Sunday for driving under the influence.

Stamps Jr., 58, was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 199 at 2:15 a.m. Sunday when he failed to negotiate a curve and rolled his Mercedes down a steep gully, according to the California Highway Patrol.

His passenger, Jana Strunc, 38, was not hurt in the accident, but Stamps Jr. suffered minor injuries that needed attention at Sutter Coast Hospital.

Stamps Jr. is a recipient of the 2006 Del Norte Pride Award which is given by The Daily Triplicate and the Crescent City-Del Norte Chamber of Commerce to people committed to bettering the aesthetics of the community.
