Upcoming road projects could cause traffic delays

Nine projects in Del Norte and other counties could delay motorists this week, Caltrans reports in its latest road repair update.

Del Norte County projects include:

•U.S. Hwy. 101: Widening of the Gilbert Creek Bridge continues from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. weekdays. Expect one-way traffic control and delays up to 15 minutes.

•State Hwy. 197: Pacific Power is tree trimming along the road between Ashford Road and Ruby Van Deventer Park. Work will be done between 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Expect one-way traffic control and five-minute delays.

Humboldt County projects include:

•State Hwy. 96: PG & E is performing equipment maintenance 0.7 miles east of Carpenter Lane beginning Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. Expect one-way traffic control and five-minute delays.

In addition, work on a rock fall barrier continues from 0.8-1.3 miles east of Slate Creek from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Expect one-way traffic control and closures to allow a helicopter to lift materials in to place. Expect 20-minute delays.

•Hwy. 101: A sink hole repair about 2 miles north of Redcrest will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction 24/7. Expect minor slowdowns.

A second project involves replacing the southbound Van Duzen River Bridge continues 7 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction 24/7. Expect minor traffic slowdowns.

A third project has closed the Trinidad Southbound Rest Area for rehabilitation.

•State Hwy. 299: Drilling and soil sampling continues from 1 to 1.2 miles east of the Truck Scale House from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect and motorists can expect 10-minute delays.
