Visitors center presentation at tonight’s harbor meeting |
For years, local agencies have been toying with the idea of an interagency visitor center. A progress report on the latest effort for such a center will be given tonight during the Crescent City Harbor Commission meeting, which is at 6:30 p.m. at the Flynn Center. The commission will also consider electing a new president and secretary and hear an appeal from a construction company that did not pass prequalification to bid on the inner boat basin rebuilding project. The interagency visitor center presentation will be given by Grant Werschkull, whom the harbor hired as a facilitator for the project, which involves 14 agencies. The harbor would be hosting the facility on land they own on U.S. Highway 101. The proposed facility is estimated to cost $7–9 million for construction costs. Redwood National Park would pay for the operation and maintenance of the facility. The purpose of the Interagency Visitor Center is to boost local tourism, which is the largest private sector employer in the county.
