Challenger Sarah Sampels handily unseated incumbent Del Norte County Supervisor Clyde Eller in yesterdays primary election, and Del Norte County Sheriff and District Attorney races are headed for a November runoff.

In the close District Attorney race, Nan Udell and Mike Riese were the top vote getters and will face each other in the fall.

In the Sheriff contest, Dean Wilson easily topped the field with 45 percent of the vote. It appears that Mike Ross, with 25.8 percent of the vote, will be Wilsons opponent in November, although George Mina tallied 24 percent of the ballots and there is at least a possibility that outcome could change when remaining absentee ballots are counted.

The total unofficial vote counts for Supervisor, District Attorney and Sheriff with all 18 precincts reporting last night are:

Supervisor

Sarah Sampels.......................855

Clyde Eller.............................361

Sheriff

Dean Wilson........................2357

Mike Ross............................1352

George Mina........................1256

Tom Galbraith........................256

District Attorney

Nan Udell.............................2044

Mike Riese...........................1937

Robert Drossel.....................1173

Udell ran her campaign with the fewest dollars but jumped out to an early lead in the contest last night, while Riese closed the gap as ballots were counted.

Incumbent Bob Drossel, who poured thousands of dollars of his own money into his campaign, tallied just over 23 percent of the vote.

The unofficial tallying of the election results was delayed last night, when ballots from precincts in Hiouchi and Gasquet were late in arriving at the Flynn Center.
