Bail for the 79-year-old Crescent City woman facing murder charges in the death of an ex-convict was set at $100,000 Monday.
Inez Rehfeld did not enter a plea during the proceedings in Del Norte County Superior Court but will return May 1 to do so.
Rehfeld is accused of killing 42-year-old James McElroy, a parolee from San Quentin who was living with Rehfeld in the Pacific Terrace Manor mobile home park at the time of his death.
found McElroy's body in Rehfeld's home on Jan. 29 – three days after he was stabbed to death. McElroy had stab wounds in the back of his neck and in his torso, the latter of which came after he was already dead. The two weapons used in the stabbing were a small, serrated steak knife and a large kitchen knife.
Police arrested Rehfeld last Thursday on murder charges. Unless she posts bail, Rehfeld will be housed in the Del Norte County Jail.
