Death notices published Feb. 2, 2012

• Velma Irene Mabry, 95, died Jan. 6, 2012, in Crescent City. She was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Beatrice, Neb., and was a 50-year resident of Del Norte County.

Memorial services will be held at the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall on Saturday at 2 p.m.  Arrangements by Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.

• Steven L. Mayo, 51, died in Crescent City on Jan. 30, 2012.  He was born Feb. 15, 1960, in Tulare, Calif., and was a 20-year resident of Del Norte County.

Obituary: Dale Ronald Rinkevicz (Feb. 4, 1963 – Jan. 28, 2012)

Dale Ronald Rinkevicz, 48 of Scottville, Mich., formerly of Crescent City, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Dale was born February 4, 1963, to Ronald and Donna (Petersen) Rinkevicz, the second of five children. He grew up on the family dairy farm, always eager to help and be the big brother.

He graduated from Mason County Central High School in 1981 and joined the United States Navy. While stationed in San Diego, he met and married his first wife, Monica, and the light of his life, Katilyn Marie, was born to their family. Dale eventually moved back to Michigan, where he began his work in carpentry. He was mostly self-taught and his talents were instinctive. He was very gifted and proud of the quality and integrity of his work. He had a long list of satisfied customers and a waiting list referred by word of mouth.

Death notices published Jan. 28, 2012

• Mathias Peter Weiland, 100, died Jan. 22, 2012. He was born Oct. 9, 1911, in Washington, Ind., and was a resident of Crescent City for 35 years.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Catholic Relief Services. Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chape on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary following at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial services will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.

 

 

Obituary: Levi William Haynes (March 10 1976 – Jan. 24, 2012)

Read more...Levi William Haynes, 35, went to be with his beloved brother Chuckles on January 24, 2012, in Humboldt County. Levi was born on March 10, 1976, in Cres­cent City to Charlie and Jan Haynes.

He attended local schools and was very active in sports. Levi graduated from Sunset High School in 1994 and pursued a career in logging like his father because he loved the outdoors.

He had two beautiful daughters with Melanie Currie Barry. Mateha and Sydni meant the world to him and he loved them with all his heart.

Obituary: Lance Boies Corrigan (Aug. 1, 1952 – Jan. 23, 2012)

Read more...Lance Boies Corrigan went to be with his mother and our Lord on January 23, 2012. He was born in Salem, Ore., on August 1, 1952, to Charles and Bettie Corrigan. He grew up in North Bend, Ore., where he attended North Bend High School. He played football until he graduated in 1970.

Lance then moved to Olympia, Wash., where he started drag racing. His first race was in 1972 at the Puyallup Raceway. In 1978, he raced in a club series, of which he became champion. He raced until he moved to Stockton, Calif., with his family.

Obituary: Edna Catherine Freeman (May 10, 1938 – January 23, 2012)

Edna C. Freeman, 73, of Crescent City, passed away Jan. 23, 2012, at Rogue Valley Medical Center of a heart attack.

Ms. Freeman loved the outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, camping, agate hunting, gardening and so much more.

Edna is survived by her granddaughter Crystal Cook-Bausch, two great-grandsons Jonathan and Matthew Erbeck, two great-granddaughters Ashley Erbeck and Deborah Bausch, and all her many wonderful friends. She will truly be missed.

Obituary: Mathias Peter Weiland (October 9, 1911 – Jan. 22, 2012)

Read more...Mathias Peter Weiland, 100 years old, passed away January 22, 2012. He was a resident of Crescent City. Matt was the oldest of five children born to John and Anna (Mangin) Weiland in Washington, Indiana.

He was reared and lived on the family farm until 1941 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army as a Private. During WWll Matt served in the 472nd Engineer Maintenance Company that was assigned to the South Pacific Island of Guadalcanal. Through the course of the war his actions and duty performance were recognized by his Brigade Commander and by the war’s end he was promoted to Captain and returned as the unit’s Company Commander. After coming home and being honorably discharged from the Army, he married his sweetheart Lois Bezdecheck. They settled in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. Matt owned and operated the Canoga Park Sign Company and raised their seven children.

As the oldest child she helped raise and support her two sisters, Kathleen and Maria, as well as her brother Leslie. She took care of her mother Helen and her Finnish grandmother or MuMu. Then she spent over 30 years helping students with disabilities at College of the Redwoods.

Read more...Donald Ellert Olson Sr. died peacefully in his home, surrounded by friends and family, on January 22, 2012. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, wonderful father, community servant and faithful friend.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Inga and Deorge, and brother Arthur Olson.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Patricia Olson, daughter Jean Nascimento and son-in-law Patrick of Jacksonville, Ore., son Donald Olson Jr. and daughter-in-law Martha Bialik of Crescent City and son, Russell Olson and daughter-in-law Elsie of Forest Grove, Ore., sister-in law Ellen Olson of Minnesota, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Mary Jean Ames, sister-in-law Janet Ames, nephews and nieces Guy Ames, Brad Ames, Carolyn Walkner, Cathy Sherwin, Daniel Olson, Randy Ames, Doug Ames, Penny Nootbaar, Holly Ames and John Ames. Grandchildren include Donica Hughes, Nancy Jones (Mike), Devonna Nascimento, Crystal Nascimento, Phoebe Freeman (Micah), Jaden Olson, Hannah Gartland, Joey Gartland, Natalie Olson and Andrew Olson. Great-grandchildren: Alex Hughes, Elizabeth Harrah, Michael Jones, Peyton Jones, Ella Jones, Skylar Page and Sarah Page.
