 Marvin Neal Marvin “Bill” Lewis Neal, 71, passed away on February 2, 2010, in Crescent City. He was born on June 30, 1938, in San Francisco. Bill was a 58-year resident of Del Norte County, having attended local schools and graduating from Del Norte High School.
Bill was very active during his lifetime, he was a past member of the Del Norte Sheriff’s Search and Rescue and assisted during the 1964 tidal wave. He loved horses and had competed with the Del Norte Horseman Association and won many awards. Through the Del Norte Recreation Department, Bill enjoyed archery and also won many awards. Some of the other pastimes he enjoyed were making model cars and working on electric trains. Bill will be remembered as a better than average pool player. He was a quiet man, who loved the outdoors and spent over 40 years as a landscape gardener.

It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Gustav “Gus” Allen announce that he passed away peacefully at his home on Lower Lake Road in Crescent City on January 30, 2010, after a long and interesting life.
Gus, as he was known throughout his life, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 13, 1939 to Robert S. Allen and Dorothy Lucille Kreatz.
Gus spent his childhood in Wayzata, Minnesota. He attended school in Wayzata and was a member of Wayzata Class of 1958.

 Amy Rachel Kaufmann Amy Rachel Kaufmann, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 24th, 2010 at the age of 26.
Amy was born on December 8th, 1983 at the old Sea Side Hospital in Crescent City. Amy lived her entire life in Crescent City. Amy graduated from Del Norte High in 2002. She had worked for the past several years at Crescent Animal Medical Center. Amy was a volunteer for the Humane Society’s K9 Olympics for 3 years and volunteered at Crescent Animal Medical Center’s free spay and neuter clinics. Amy enjoyed hiking, wilderness camping, snowboarding, mushroom hunting, fishing, rafting the Smith, traveling and playing softball. She loved animals of all sorts, especially her dog Green.

Eleanor Mae Towers passed away January 27, 2010, after a short illness. Born in Wakefield, Calif., on February 6, 1924, Eleanor Wakefield grew up in the Fort Dick area with her siblings Lois, Bob, Dick and Sara Wakefield (later, Sara Soares).
