Bonnie V. Baggett (Nov. 9, 1927 – June 5, 2014)

 Bonnie V. Baggett passed away quietly in his sleep at home on June 5, 2014. Bonnie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. 

He is survived by his children, Kathy Edmonds and son-in-law David Edmonds of Eureka, Calif.; Jim Baggett and daughter-in-law Mary Baggett of Brookings, Ore.; Carl Baggett and daughter-in-law Julie Baggett of Arcata, Calif., and Valerie Shapton of Brookings, Ore. Bonnie has 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren who will miss him. He is also survived by his brother, John Baggett of Modesto, Calif., and sister Kate Smith of Newburg, Ore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Baggett; his parents, John and Lyndell Baggett, and his sister, Fern James.

Bonnie grew up in Texas and then moved to Oregon in 1945. Bonnie served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from Chico High School in 1947 and later graduated from Chico College in 1951. He earned his master’s degree in 1968 from Oregon State University.

He met and married Edith Ramelli in Chico, Calif., while attending Chico State College. They have been married for 63 years and raised four children. Bonnie taught business classes at Del Norte High School in Crescent City for 30 years.

He served as the treasurer on the credit committee of DENOCOS Federal Credit Union for many years. Bonnie and his wife, Edith, were active members of the Tsunami Sam’s Travel Club. He was very proud of the efforts of Tsunami Sam in raising funds for the Dogs for the Deaf and Relay for Life. He was also a member of the local Elks club for more than 35 years.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bonnie’s name to the Del Norte Scholarship Fund, 1301 El Dorado St., Crescent City, CA 95531.

Graveside services will be held at Del Norte County Veterans Cemetery on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 10 a.m.
