Fred G. Holcomb (Sept. 12, 1927 – Jan. 19, 2012)

Fred G. Holcomb, 84, passed away on January 19, 2012, in Crescent City. He was born on September 12, 1927, in Ray, Ariz. Fred was a 56-year resident of Del Norte County. He  proudly served his country in the Armed Forces and was a member of the VFW Post #1381 and the Gasquet American Legion.

Fred also belonged to the King’s Valley Golf Club and was a  former member of the Elk BPOE #1689, Eagle Lodge #3754. Fred loved to fish and golf despite disabilities that would have stopped most people. He also enjoyed pottery and was a member of the Del Norte County Art Association. Dancing was something he enjoyed as well. Fred was a hero to his children, he set the bar high in being a father and was always prepared with a good joke.

Survivors included his wife Roma Holcomb; children and their spouses Richard A. and Shirley Holcomb, Ted G. and Wanda Holcomb, Jeff B. and Kathy Holcomb, Karen L. Holcomb, Laura and Joe Lantz, Deborah Preslar and David L. Froom Sr.; brother Larry W. Holcomb; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 1710 Gilberth Rd., Burlingame, CA 94010.

Memorial services will be held at the United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 28, at 1 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
