Obituaries: Alma Hembree(1929-2007)

Alma Hembree, 78, died July 2, 2007, in Crescent City.

She was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Wiggins, Colo., and was a 22-year resident of Del Norte County.

Before she retired she worked as an LVN at Seaside Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of the Ocean View Baptist Church.She was also a teachers' aide at River View Baptist Church in Pasco, Wash.

She loved to help children and loved crocheting.

She was married for 47 years to James Hembree, a Crescent City postmaster.

She is survived by her children, Sonja Radcliffe, Lincoln City, Ore.; Linda Bergmann, Santa Rosa; Debbie Blair, Crescent City, who was an excellent caregiver for five years; and Cindy Bigham, Crescent City.

She is also survived by her sisters, Mickey Svangren, Kennewick, Wash.; Rosalie Taylor, Vancouver, Wash.; and Syliva Whitney, Cheany, Wash.

In addition, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren survive her.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Hembree.

The family requests contributions be made in her memory to American Lung Association, 115 Talbot Ave., Santa Rosa, Calif., 95404.

No services are scheduled. Private interment will take place at Williamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel.
