Arman L. Gunnerson, 74, passed away on July 12, 2011, in Crescent City. He was born on May 17, 1937 in Scotia, Calif., to John and Mabel Gunnerson. Arman was a 45-year resident of Del Norte County, making his home in Crescent City.
He was raised in Rio Dell of Humboldt County and graduated from Fortuna High in 1955 and attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 in Germany. After returning from the Army, Arman worked in both Eureka and Arcata as a finance officer. In December 1965 he moved to Crescent City and became office manager for the White House Finance Company, which he had worked for in Humboldt County.
In 1975 he started working for the Del Norte County Assessor’s Office
as an appraiser until his retirement. Arman was also on the Economic
Development Corp. board for more than 33 years and also a board member
for eight years at the 41st District Agricultural Association, Del Norte
County Fair. Arman will be remembered most as a member of the Crescent
City Jaycees, where he devoted himself and was one of the founding
fathers of the annual eighth grade basketball tournament for over 43
years.
He is survived by his sister Alice Gunnerson of Santa Clara, Calif.;
brother Eldon and wife Magdalene Gunnerson of Dobbins, Calif., and his
former wife Dawna Gunnerson and other relatives.
A visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Monday, July
18, 2011, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. with funeral services following at
the Del Norte County Fairground, in the Arts and Crafts Building at 2
p.m. Interment will follow at the Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery,
400 Cooper Avenue, Crescent City.
Family has requested contributions be made in his memory to the
Crescent City Jaycees Basketball Tournament Scholarship Fund, PO Box
521, Crescent City, CA 95531.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of
Crescent City.
